The shown instrument panel was designed and build in the framework of the major overhaul of the Std. Cirrus. It is especially adapted to the used instruments and has an EASA-approval. To original build-in instrument panel was made from Aluminium was out of question because a potential emergency exit from the plane is significant hampered. The shown instrument panel is designed in a way to remove the feet sideways around it out of the plane. The normal way - feet back and then out - is likewise possible.

Further on using that type of instrument panel the crash-safety is increased because the front mount is build in that way that is fails in this case and the instrument panel can move for- and downward into the cockpit section. Crash-tests at the FH-Aachen have shown, that in case of a ground impact or in the case of "coming to far" of an glider the canopy flew off the fuselage and the fuselage-boat itself, which is weakened by the canopy cut-out, bends upward. This leads to a situation, where the face of the pilot is thrown in the instrument panel - with all consequences! Because of the breaking away to the front of this type of panel this risk is significantly reduced.

For modern gilders with strengthening of the cockpit this is not the case - but unfortunately the Std. Cirrus belongs not in this category of gliders...

For the mounting of the instrument-panel the cover of the old panel inside the canopy has to be removed. This reduces the stiffness of the canopy along the longitudinal axis of the glider, but it is not a problem in the normal flight usage.

If you are interested in such a instrument panel, which is especially designed for your instruments and which has the mentioned advantages for the crash safety and mainly has an EASA approval, please contact me by E-Mail to WebMaster@GliderDesignParts.de.
